The Real Dialogues team has been busy, and we wanted to share a first project update.
But first of all, thank you once again to everyone who supported the idea with your comments, feedback and your votes. We are extremely delighted to have won the inaugural NCDD Catalyst Award. Unfortunately, the news hit us at a time when we were all super busy with work, so we’re just now starting to share our excitement with the list.
A few quick updates before the week is over:
1) Project website
We have set up an online presence at http://www.realdialogues.org. This is where we will share ongoing project news, results from our trial runs using Google Hangout, resources we come across etc.
It’s a work in progress, but we’ll have more content up very soon.
You should definitely follow our blog here: http://www.realdialogues.org/blog.html
2) Social media
You can follow us on Twitter (https://twitter.com/Real_Dialogues) or friend us on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Real-Dialogues-Project/550817641624756).
3) Regular team calls
We have been meeting on a weekly basis. And in an effort to eat our own dog food, we’ve been using Google Hangout exclusively for these calls. We’ve already learned quite a bit, and hopefully that will help us create a great experience for our participants.
While many of the project details have yet to be finalized, we are moving closer towards picking a main topic or theme that will drive the “real dialogues” we want to capture. We also have discussed extensively opportunities around partnering with local public engagement projects or organizations, and hope to share more details soon.
4) Invitation to join our 03/19 trial hangout
During our upcoming weekly planning call this coming Tuesday, we will run a short (ca. 30-minute) trial, a “mock” dialogue on healthcare. We are looking for 2-3 volunteers to join us. The goal here isn’t so much an in-depth conversation, but rather to test out some of the logistics involved with bringing new people on board and managing the recording. All in the circle will be asked to briefly share a personal experience related to the topic, followed by two rounds of group dialogue:
